SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – Pink was “in” at the Banner County vs. Potter Dix “Pink Out” basketball game on January 31.

Boys and girls from both high schools suited up in pink t-shirts for the game. In the process, the Banner County High School Student Council raised $520 for breast cancer, which they donated to Regional West’s Breast Health Center.

Banner County Student Council President Amanda Harrison said students came up with the service project idea while traveling to a student council convention.

“Since pink outs have been successful at other schools, we decided to seek permission to organize a pink out event at one of our basketball games,” she said.

Harrison said the project taught the students the importance of communication and organizational skills. They had to get administrative approval for the event, contact Potter-Dix about participating, design the t-shirts, order the shirts and bracelets, and conduct sales and distribution.

They sold 140 t-shirts and more than 100 bracelets. At half-time, students walked around the gym with a blanket and invited fans to throw spare change in for the cause.

“I sincerely appreciate the creativity and generosity of these students,” says Lanna Zulkoski, RT (R) (M) (BS), supervisor of The Breast Health Center. “Breast cancer affects many, and because of your kindness, this donation will touch many in a positive way.”
