Regional West Foundation's 25th Annual Thelma Jones Tournament Draws 204 Participants
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – The winners circle was a big one Monday at Scotts Bluff Country Club as the 25th Annual Thelma Jones Memorial Golf Scramble came to a close.
The biggest winner – Regional West Foundation – benefited from the participation of 204 golfers, dozens of generous sponsors, and even more dedicated volunteers.
The Thelma Jones Memorial Golf Scramble is named in honor of a longtime friend of Regional West Medical Center who died of cancer in 1989. This year, proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Regional West Foundation capital campaign.
“In 2012, we raised nearly $32,000 through the Thelma Jones Golf Scramble, so hopes are high that this year will be even better,” said Foundation Executive Director Shelley Knutson.
In honor of the event’s silver anniversary, the Foundation presented two winning golfers with sets of 5 solid silver coins. The winners were Penny Yekel and Mandy Berry.
After five years of competing together, the Regional West Foundation Board of Directors team won the tournament. The team included board president John Massey, and board members Cathy Hefti, Rick Morehouse, and Mary Kay Haun.
The “All Regional West” team sponsored by Shirley Knodel, vice president of patient care, earned the “Best Score” award. The team included Nate Walker, Mike McFeely, Chris Crisman, and Nick Spain.
Ten golfers qualified for a chance to win the $2,500 putting contest. Although no one sunk the putt, Rick Tuggle from the First State Bank team came closest.
The $500 cash door prize was awarded to Mandy Berry and Shermaine Sterkel won the 50/50 drawing.
