SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – The New Year began with a big surprise for Kassey Cain and Joseph Robinson of Kimball – the birth of their first child, Tallon James Robinson.

Tallon was born at 12:33 p.m. on New Year’s Day, 11 weeks before his due date. He weighed three pounds, seven ounces. His parents chose his middle name in honor of both of his grandfathers.

His mother, Kassey, contacted the Regional West Birth and Infant Care Center after she began having contractions in the early morning hours. They were advised to come to the Medical Center and plans were made to transfer Cain to Denver for the baby’s birth. By 8 a.m. when the family arrived at Regional West, Cain was in active labor. Baby Tallon was safely delivered at the Regional West Birth and Infant Care Center, then transferred Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center for additional care.

Tallon’s grandmother, Dawna Schmidt of Kimball, said she and her daughter were both scheduled to work at the Kimball Pamida store at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Day, but instead she would travel with her new grandson to the Denver hospital. The baby's parents also traveled to Denver following the new mother’s dismissal.
