Inaugural Meeting of New Stroke Support Group To Be Held June 3 at Regional West Medical Center
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., -Each year, over 750,000 Americans suffer a stroke and deal with the subsequent rehabilitation challenges and lifestyle changes. For many stroke survivors, participation in a stroke support group is an important part of the recovery process. Beginning June 3, Regional West Medical Center will offer a monthly stroke support group for survivors and their families/caregivers.
Life for both survivors and caregivers can change drastically after a stroke. Stroke survivors may face loss of function, employment, income and other issues. Spouses often change roles in the household while adapting to a new type of relationship with their loved one. Talking with others who have experienced similar situations can help both caregivers and stroke survivors cope with their new lives.
Stroke survivors, families and caregivers are welcome to attend the support group to share common concerns, learn about community resources and activities and provide encouragement and caring. Each meeting will feature a special guest speaker who will discuss topics relevant to stroke and stoke survivors/caregivers. The first meeting will be held June 3 from noon to 1 p.m. in Medical Plaza South meeting room #1204. There is no charge to attend and lunch will be provided at each meeting. To reserve your place, contact Susan Johnson at 308-630-1471 by June 2.
