Regional West Medical Center Re-verified as a Level II Trauma Center
Scottsbluff, Neb., – The trauma center at Regional West Medical Center has again been verified as a Level II Trauma Center by site reviewers from the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. This designation recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.
Established by the American College of Surgeons in 1987, the Committee on Trauma's Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, as well as the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This spectrum encompasses the pre-hospital phase through the rehabilitation process.
Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. Performance improvement and maintaining a trauma registry database are both key components in providing quality care. Regional West’s Level II trauma services include the availability of round-the-clock, on-call trauma surgeons and operating room staff, neurosurgeons, an anesthesiology department, and ancillary services including a CT scanner, blood bank, and laboratory services. The trauma program includes Air Link air ambulance services, which is fully accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).
Regional West Medical Center is the only Level II Trauma Center in Nebraska west of Kearney. It has been verified as a Level II Trauma Center since 1996.
