What is the DAISY Award?

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates excellence in nursing. Established by the DAISY Foundation to recognize and honor the inspiring work that nurses do every day, there are now over 2,500 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, plus 14 countries, that have committed to recognizing their extraordinary nurses with the DAISY Award.

Regional West Medical Center is proud to be a DAISY Award partner. We recognize one exceptional RN or LPN each quarter with this special honor.

DAISY Award recipients personify Regional West’s commitment to outstanding health care services and are recognized as outstanding role models among their fellow nursing professionals. They consistently demonstrate a dedication to excellence through clinical expertise, compassionate patient care, and extraordinary service.

What is the DAISY Foundation?

The DAISY Foundation was created in 2000 to honor the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. In memory of Patrick, the Barnes family recalled the skilled, compassionate care Patrick received from his nurses during his eight-week hospitalization. They wanted to say thank you to nurses everywhere by establishing a recognition program – The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Who can be nominated?

Each quarter, the DAISY Award committee selects one Regional West Medical Center RN or LPN who:

  • Makes a special connection with a patient/family.

  • Has significantly made a difference in a patient's life

  • Takes time to educate and include the patient and family during the care process

  • Is thoughtful, compassionate, and caring in all situations

  • Goes above and beyond, exceeding expectations every day

       

Each award recipient will receive:

  • DAISY Award honoree pin

  • DAISY certificate

  • Healer’s Touch sculpture 

  • A copy of the nomination

  • DAISY bag

  • Celebratory cinnamon rolls for the recipient and his or her department

 

How to nominate an extraordinary nurse

Patients, visitors, family members, co-workers, physicians, and providers may nominate a deserving RN or LPN by:

  • Filling out an electronic nomination form. Click here to access the form.

  • Filling out a nomination form (found on patient units) to give to the desk on that unit or mailing it to the address listed on the form.
