National Study: Regional West Medical Center is a 2018 Healthgrades Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Stroke, Pneumonia, Sepsis, and Respiratory Failure

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – Regional West Medical Center is proud to announce that it has achieved 5-stars for its performance in the treatment of Stroke, Pneumonia, Sepsis, and Respiratory Failure according to this year’s evaluation from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.*

“We are proud to receive additional national recognition from Healthgrades. This is a reflection of the commitment of all Regional West staff to provide excellent patient care services. We are focused on working to improve patient outcomes, patient safety, and patient satisfaction.” John Mentgen, President and CEO of Regional West Health Services.

These achievements are part of findings released today by Healthgrades and are featured in their 2018 Report to the Nation. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. This variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes.

“Health care is ever changing. We continue to strive to provide high-quality care at Regional West and ensure we are treating our friends and neighbors based on the latest guidelines. Over the last year, we have worked as a multidisciplinary team to streamline our sepsis management. It takes the entire staff at Regional West to attain the 5-star ratings,” said Lisa Scheppers, MD, FACP, Regional West’s Chief Medical Officer.

“Consumers place high value on information about hospital quality and use it to evaluate their choices for care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have achieved recognition for their quality outcomes prove their commitment to their patients and their community at large.”

*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 17 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
