Village Residents Treated to Car Show for National Assisted Living Week
Scottsbluff, Neb., – Residents of The Village at Regional West were treated to a car show on Friday, Sept. 19, as they continued their celebration of National Assisted Living Week.
Members of the High Plains Auto Club brought 13 antique and modified cars to The Village for the residents to enjoy.
“We brought the cars here at the invitation of Karen Vorse (The Village administrator),” said Larry Janecek, High Plains Auto Club president. “We’re a very active club and we really enjoy touring and doing things like this.”
After looking at the cars, residents had the opportunity to vote for their favorite vehicle. The decision was an easy one for Lucille Green and her sister-in-law, Violet Riley. They both favored a purple ’32 Chevy because it reminded them of a similar vehicle that has been passed down through their family for several generations.
“We bought a ’31 Chevy many years ago and handed it down to our three sons and to some other young men in the family,” said Green. “Each time it was passed down it got a new coat of paint. It is still running and being driven today.”
Evidently the women were not the only admirers of the ’32 Chevy, as residents declared it their No. 1 choice when the votes were tallied.
“Alan and Cher Maybee are the proud owners of the car that won,” said Vorse. “Alan was given a prize by the club for the win, as residents and club members enjoyed a fruit tray, cookies and beverages inside. Club members also left a miniature sports car for each resident so they would have a “brand new car” of their own. It was a lot of fun for all of us!”
