Regional West Offers Speed, Power & Agility Camp to Gordon High School Student Athletes
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.- The RehabCenter’s certified athletic trainers are sponsoring a sports performance camp for all 2007-2008 Gordon High School student athletes, which will focus on speed, power and agility and include personalized improvement plans for each participant. While most sports camps cost $50 to $100 per day, the cost of this camp is $25 per participant.
Students from other schools may attend the camp, but enrollment is limited to 30 participants and a minimum of 10 athletes is required.
“This sports performance camp focuses on creating a well-rounded athlete in all aspects,” said Amber Perry, ATC. “It’s designed to help athletes learn how to increase their speed as well as improve their agility and strength. In turn, the students will reduce the chance and severity of athletic injuries.”
The camp will feature an electronic 40-yard dash timing, vertical jump testing, agility testing, running form assessment and drills to increase speed and improve agility. In addition, the participants will utilize plyometrics, a type of exercise that uses explosive movements to develop muscular power, and core training to achieve their performance goals. The trainers will analyze the test results to determine areas of opportunity for improvement and work with each student personally.
Camp participants will receive a T-shirt and two days of personalized training from the Regional West athletic trainers. The camps will be held in June 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. and June 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
At the end of the summer, the trainers will test each participant to gauge their improvement. In addition to the three standard tests, athletes may participate in another RehabCenter program called “How Do You Compare?” which gives all high school athletes in western Nebraska an opportunity to test their max performance. Results from this event will be published in the Star-Herald newspaper.
“This gives us the data to see where they began and how they improved after a summer of specific and personalized workouts,” said Perry.
