Apria Building to Be Moved Friday Evening
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – The northern end of Avenue B will be closed to traffic Friday evening while the former Apria Healthcare building is moved across the street and half a block south to a new foundation located south of Regional West Medical Center. The building is being moved to make way for Avenue B to be rerouted. It currently lies in the path of the new street.
Russell’s Excavation and Construction of Morrill, Neb., and DeJohn’s House Moving of Greeley, Colo., will move the 5,400 square foot steel-framed building. It will be unbolted from its current foundation and elevated with jacks to allow an I-beam framework to be inserted underneath for structural support as it is moved. A truck attached to the framework at the south end of the building will tow the structure and two oscillating dollies will carry the weight of the building at the north end.
During the towing process, the structure will have to be turned 180 degrees so that the building entrance will face west at its new location.
Avenue B will be closed to traffic between West 36th Street and 42nd Street from approximately 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 15. Northbound traffic on Avenue B will be detoured west on 36th Street, then north on Avenue D onto West 42nd Street.
During the move, Regional West Medical Center will only be accessible from 42nd Street. The south side of the campus will be accessible from Rugger Drive via West 42nd Street. The Emergency Department will be accessible to patients and ambulances from the north end of Avenue B at 42nd Street.
