SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – Due to water damage from Monday night’s storm, patients of the Dorwart Cancer Care Center at Sidney, Neb., will temporarily need to travel to Scottsbluff for radiation therapy.

The storm caused significant damage to the facility, including water damage and a power outage. As of Tuesday afternoon, phones were not working at the cancer center and at least one sump pump had stopped working.

“We want to assure our patients in Sidney that they will be able to continue their radiation therapy at the Cancer Treatment Center in Scottsbluff,” said Jeff Kriewald, BS, RT, (R), (T), Regional West Director of Cancer Services. “We regret that they will have to drive to Scottsbluff, but they will receive the treatment they need at the Cancer Treatment Center in Scottsbluff for as long as necessary.

The Dorwart Cancer Care Center will be closed indefinitely for clean-up and repairs. Staff will contact patients to reschedule their treatment at the Cancer Treatment Center.

In addition, visiting physician clinics that are usually held at the Dorwart Cancer Care Center may need to be rescheduled. The individual physician offices will contact their patients with rescheduling information if necessary.
