SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., ― Four Regional West physicians and nurses recently received Live On Nebraska’s Green Cape Award for their extraordinary efforts in an organ donation case.

Live On Nebraska is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to saving and healing lives through organ, tissue, and eye donation. Each month, Live On Nebraska employees nominate healthcare workers in donor cases who went above and beyond the call of duty. Out of approximately 400 donation cases, only 12 awards are given out each year.

Oluwakemi Fagbami, MD; Rachel Conyers, RN; Kayla Souza, RN; and Jason LaTowsky, MD, have the rare honor of receiving the award as a team of four following nominations from a Live On Nebraska employee and the donor patient’s family. Their nomination highlighted their communication, teamwork, and kindness in relaying information and connecting the patient’s family to Live On Nebraska.

“This was a very time sensitive case and required lots of communication, all being done over the phone due to distance,” the employee nomination read. “It was a multisystem, multidisciplinary game of telephone, and the communication between physicians, nursing staff, and Live On Nebraska staff was phenomenal and very appreciated.”

“Organ donation is a collaborative effort between Regional West Medical Center and Live On Nebraska. We are honored that they have recognized our team members Dr. LaTowsky, Dr. Fagbami, Rachael Conyers, and Kayla Souza,” added Linda Fowler, RN, APRN-CNS, Regional West’s clinical coordinator in the Critical Care department. “Working together, we are able to provide the opportunity of organ and tissue donation – a gift of life.”
