SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – On Wednesday, a phone solicitation was placed to a local family by a caller requesting a donation to Prairie Haven Hospice in Scottsbluff. Prairie Haven Hospice wishes to inform the public that it does not endorse this practice and is not affiliated with the caller.

According to a family member, who wishes to remain anonymous, the caller implied that she was affiliated with Prairie Haven Hospice and requested a donation. It is assumed that the caller obtained information on the family from an obituary that was printed in the newspaper.

“Prairie Haven Hospice has never solicited donations via telephone,” Linda Rock, Prairie Haven Hospice executive director, said. “We rely strictly on the generosity of the family and friends of the patients we serve or established memorials to generate the many kind gifts we receive each year. The memorials and gifts Prairie Haven Hospice receives each year enhances the services provided in the communities we serve."

If an individual receives a phone solicitation for Prairie Haven Hospice donations, Rock encourages them to inform the local police department immediately.

“It is truly unconscionable that an individual would target a family in their time of grief,” Rock said. “Our compassion and sympathy is with this family.”
