Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists (OTs) use purposeful and meaningful daily activities that fill a person’s time or his or her “occupation.”

This may include:

  • Self care
  • Play or leisure
  • At work and/or home
  • Community tasks

OTs often work with patients who have lost independence due to an illness, disease, or trauma. Family education is an important part of the OT’s role.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Cardiac rehab

The Rehab Center’s cardiac rehabilitation program emphasizes exercise and education to decrease risk factors and improve the health of patients with heart or lung disease. The registered nurses, respiratory therapists, registered dietitians, registered pharmacists, physicians, and cardiologists take great care in advancing patients’ physical fitness in a controlled, safe environment as well as adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Athletic Training

Athletic Trainers

The Rehab Center's certified athletic trainers attend high school team practices and sporting events for many Nebraska panhandle schools. We work with student athletes and coaches by teaching proper conditioning exercises and injury prevention, as well as assessing injuries for severity. The athletic trainer will suggest how to best treat the injury, which may include a physician referral.

They will assist, encourage, and support you and your family while helping plan any care you may need after discharge. The individuals who are always on your team are you, a rehabilitation physician, and registered nurses with rehabilitation experience.

As the only accredited inpatient rehabilitation facility in western Nebraska, Regional West’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) bridges the gap between the time patients needing intensive rehabilitation first enter the hospital to the time they go back home.

Because members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team are all located on Regional West’s campus, physicians and staff have direct access to your hospital records. This helps ensure a seamless transition from one level of care to the next.

The average length of stay on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit is 12 days.
