Rehabilitation Center Speech Language Pathology

What is the role of a speech/language pathologist?

Our speech/language pathologists recognize that communication is vital to everyone. Speech/language pathologists (sometimes informally referred to as speech therapists) assess and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders. Patients who have suffered a brain injury or tumor, disease, or stroke may work with a speech/language pathologist to regain the ability to speak, put their thoughts into a sentence, or swallow.

Speech pathologists help patients learn how to retrieve the appropriate words, understand what is being said, and read the written word. Therapy is also available and provided to children whose ability to speak or swallow has been affected by injury or illness. Speech/language pathologists incorporate technology into their treatment plan with a computer lab that allows patients to work independently to improve cognitive skills.
